Black History Month - Kameesha Jones

We're celebrating voices during Black History Month. Here we're featuring Kameesha Jones, AV Project Manager for Florida International University.

Kameesha began her AV career through an internship at the Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Center after earning her Master’s degree in music production and management. During her time at the Arsht Center, she actively engaged with the production team of the shows she helped produce, eager to learn and grow in the industry.

After completing her internship, Kameesha was determined to break into the AV industry. She took roles at the local union and worked in museums, gaining hands-on experience wherever she could. Without a mentor or clear guidance, she navigated her career independently, driven by her passion for live shows from an audiovisual perspective.

Being a Black woman in a male-dominated field came with challenges—she often faced skepticism and was overlooked. However, Kameesha used these obstacles as motivation, working even harder to perfect her craft. Despite the barriers, she found that her unique vision and cultural background allowed her to bring a fresh perspective to productions, making a lasting impact on clients and audiences alike.

For Kameesha, Black history is American history. She recognizes that the world was built on the contributions of Black people, and in her own way, she is a part of that legacy. Every challenge she has faced serves to pave the way for the next generation. To her, Black history is not just about struggle—it’s a celebration of resilience, excellence, and achievement.

Her advice to future generations is simple: knowledge is power, and no one can take away your education. She hopes her generation will create more opportunities, mentorship programs, and guidance to help the next wave of Black professionals reach their full potential.
